WHO IS ROSE

I cannot remember life without GHOSTS/SPIRITS... My interest began in the paranormal when I was 2...that's when my mom told me I first started talking about GHOSTS/SPIRITS. I grew up like most of you, learning that one shouldn't talk about the things they can see, hear and feel. Now, after years of ignoring these abilities and senses, I can no longer deny it. The TIME has come...

THE LOST BOYS TURN 20~ Santa Cruz Cult Classic

After 20 years,
'The Lost Boys' remains the most beloved movie ever associated with Santa Cruz.
by Sean McCourt
Sentinel correspondent

"Sleep all day. Party all night. It's fun to be a vampire"...

As many fans of horror films and '80s pop culture know, the preceding slogan was the tagline for "The Lost Boys,"
a locally beloved movie celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and enjoying cult classic status more than ever. Shot on location in Santa Cruz — redubbed "Santa Carla" in the shooting script — during the summer of 1986, and released on July 31, 1987, the film about a gang of teenage vampires terrorizing a coastal community has garnered an immense and loyal following over the years.

In conjunction with the Boardwalk's 100th anniversary celebrations, and marking the two decades since the release of the film, a special outdoor screening of "The Lost Boys" will take place on Wednesday, projected on a huge movie screen to be erected on Main Beach. Several actors from the film will be in attendance for the fete, including Brooke McCarter, Billy Wirth, Jamison Newlander and Chance Michael Corbitt, who will meet and talk with fans.

McCarter, who played the teenage vampire Paul, is in awe of the cult status that "The Lost Boys" has achieved over the past 20 years — and of the devotion of fans that he meets.
"I can't believe that there is that much interest, and that much of a following. Some families all come dressed up as the Lost Boys, and are in character, and know every word to the movie, and are just so into it".
Wirth, who portrayed Dwayne, the member of the vampire gang that is memorably dispatched with an arrow and an exploding stereo system, echoes those sentiments.

"This movie has traveled the globe; I still get fan letters from all over the place. I've been to conventions and seen these grown-up kids with images of all of us tattooed on their backs.

"The great thing about this movie is that compared to the horror movies that are out now — which are all much more graphic — it holds up," says Wirth. "It's a horror movie that has a story and isn't just violence and full of completely disturbing images — I mean this was scary at the time, but it was not gratuitous, it was for the story, and there was a lot of humor in there"
McCarter, whose character ultimately meets his demise in a bathtub full of holy water, says that making the movie in Santa Cruz was a blast — the former Holiday Inn on Ocean Street was taken over by the film crews and actors while they were in town, and McCarter fondly remembers the stay — including the fact that "they blacked out our hotel rooms — all the windows were sealed with black velvet" to help them stay in character.
Not that they needed much encouragement — much of the cast and crew lived up to the movie's tagline.

"It was just one huge workfest and partyfest, it was insane, we had so much fun," says McCarter. "We'd work nights, so you'd start at six at night, and go to six in the morning. When you work a 12-hour day, you're not going to go right to bed; you're going to want to unwind, so I'd have like 30 people partying in my hotel room at 7:30 in the morning.

"They didn't want us in the sun at all; they wanted us to have that white vampire look. We were on a nighttime schedule, and they definitely kept us in that nocturnal vampire state of mind — when that sun came up you really didn't want to see it," laughs Wirth.

McCarter, who will be bringing along a film crew to document the event on Wednesday for an upcoming television project he's working on, says that one of his other favorite memories of the filming was getting to ride a motorcycle up and down the beach and the Boardwalk, fitting right in with his character's frame of mind.

"Our job was to be these crazy kids — and we were at the time," McCarter laughs. "So it came pretty naturally"
Wirth, with a good natured chuckle, recalls an incident that he was involved in during some downtime in the shooting schedule — and amusingly it didn't involve riding motorcycles or any other stunts.

"I remember going to the Boardwalk, and going on one of the rides, and I just couldn't stomach it. That was pretty funny, because here I am, supposed to be this tough, bad-ass vampire, and I'm getting sick on one of the rides"

Casting extras
Carl Henn, who is currently the director of maintenance and development at the Boardwalk, was director of facilities development at the time that "The Lost Boys" was being filmed, and acted as the liaison between the amusement park and the film company.
"At the time we kind of figured it would be just a scary, weird, teenage movie, and it really turned into an amazing piece, I thought. I was very much surprised that it's continued on like it has".
Henn worked first-hand with the film crew, overseeing what they did to change things at the Boardwalk, such as building extra sets and re-decorating, and also caught a glimpse into the movie-making process.

"For me, watching what they did, and some of the ways they did their effects, and seeing when it all came together was really fun"
People still ask Henn about what it was like to be around the making of "The Lost Boys," and he enjoys sharing his memories, such as remembering when an ad was run locally looking for extras for the film.

"One of the assistant directors was really happy because when they put out the call, everybody showed up and they really didn't have much of a need for a makeup situation. What showed up was perfect, they were pretty much dressed ready to go," he laughs.
"Santa Cruz fit right into the vampire motif".

The comics connection
Another location that was featured prominently in "The Lost Boys" was Atlantis Fantasyworld, which stood in for the comic book shop where the "Frog brothers," the vampire-fighting duo of the film, work for their parents.

Joe Ferrara, owner of Atlantis, recalls the three weekends that the film crew took over his store — when it was at its original location on lower Pacific Ave., before the 1989 earthquake — and transformed it into a movie set.
"One of the big reasons they really liked the location was its size — the thing you see on camera is the Frog brothers — two or three actors on screen. What you don't see is the 75 other people standing around".

Through the magic of moviemaking and a faux set built in front of Atlantis' doorway, the comic store was made to seem as though it was actually on the Boardwalk, and Ferrara says that people still come to town and try to find his shop on the Boardwalk.

In addition to his business being featured in "The Lost Boys," Ferrara also had a cameo in one scene, where he was supposed to be playing a pinball machine in the background, but the game was turned off so it wouldn't make any noise.

"So I'm standing in the back there, and we're looking at dead machine as if we're playing it, and at one point I just said, 'Aw, did you see that? We got robbed!' --I wasn't supposed to say anything — But I just said it like a natural reaction. If you crank the volume up in that scene, you can hear that line," he laughs.

"At the time, we thought it was kind of cool, but the unbelievable thing is how many times in the last 20 years people have come in and mentioned 'The Lost Boys,'" says Ferrara, who keeps an autographed copy of the prop comic book "Vampires Everywhere!" from "The Lost Boys" in his office.
"Who wouldn't want to be a part of a cult classic?"

DEMONOLOGY

"The spirit that I have seen
May be a devil, and the devil hath power
T' assume a pleasing shape,
yea, and perhaps
Out of my weakness and my melancholy,
As he is very potent with such spirits,
Abuses me to Damn me."

~ William Shakespeare
Hamlet Prince of Denmark (Hamlet at II, ii)

Well, I must say...
Researching DEMONS has been at times as humerous as it was frustrating. There is a lot to filter through...
Either the author sounds a little loopy and off-balance OR it's polarized into CHRISTIAN ideals of what DEMONS are and what purpose they serve (if any). My interest was sparked in DEMONOLOGY and I have decided to dedicate more time & research to the topic here in my more in depth BLOG.

It may surprise some of you to know that HOMER described GODS & DEMONS often interchangeably. PLUTARCH speaks of "human souls as commencing, first heroes, then demons, and afterward as advancing to a more sublime degree." PHILO of BYBLUS seems to draw from this same tradition when he states that, "The most ancient of the barbarians, especially the Phoenicians and Egyptians, from whom other people derived this custom, accounted those the greatest gods who had found out things most necessary and useful in life -- and had been benefactors to mankind."

Some historians through the ages have believed there have been spikes of marked intensity of DEMONIC influence upon the earth. They saw these as cycles and explained many of societies problems & suffering on the influx of DEMONS. These time periods include: the destruction of Jerusalem; the fall of Rome; and the French Revolution. One would imagine they would have included many occurences of the 20th & 21st centuries, such as World War II, HITLER & the NAZI'S, to name just a few.

DEMONS & PROPHECY
Although demonic POSSESION was feared by the people of the *old world*, it was true that they still paid attention to the *blabbering* of the possessed. Many believed that what was being said, was prophetic in nature and should be taken with the utmost seriousness.

SPECIES of DEMONS
as Described by Alphonse de Spina (1467)

Fates, who alter destiny
Poltergeists, who cause mischief
Incubi and Succubi, who stimulate lust and perversion
Marching Hordes, who bring about war
Familiars, who assist witches
Nightmares, who disturb sleep through bad dreams
Demons formed from Human Semen
Disguised Demons
Demons who Assail the Saintly
Demons who Instigate Witchcraft

DEMONOLOGY

DEMONS

Interestingly, the word DEMON in ancient Greece meant "genius".
It was a term used to describe ALL entities in the etheric world, good or evil.
It's cousin DAEMON, actually originates in China from around 2000 B.C. from the I CHING, and meant a genius that could converse with the spirit world.

In our modern world, we tend to describe demons as evil sources of energy capable of nasty little tricks, manipulations, and even full blown POSSESION. Oftentimes, people have very definite opinions on this subject, both sides passionately believing they are right.

Ultimately, it's up to US to decide for ourselves independently, what a demon is, what the nature of evil is, and if it ALL even exists??!!

DEMON-
An intelligence in the etheric world, low or (new) on the evolutionary scale, therefore its lifestyle appears to be evil or ignorant; capable of communicating with mankind, or being manipulated by them OR manipulating them, which ends in harm to people or their worldly situations; a soul-mind who pursued inferior activites in physical life, now abides in the lower plane and haunts man.

PHANTOM-
An ASTRAL BODY showing itself clairvoyantly as a human being, only hazy or in a substance less dense than the physical body; usually full blown; term used for an etheric world entity one does not know and is not sensed as one's GUIDE.

SIN ~ Franz von Stuck

"Spiritual force is stronger than material force; thoughts rule the world."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson

The haunted house I grew up in for 17 years of my life, as I have alluded to in other posts, seems relevant now since we are discussing DEMONS, experiences, & the GROWL in my ear!I moved there (Berkeley, CA) when I was 5 and from the moment I went downstairs I felt frozen from fear. It wasn't some dingy old basement. Rather, it had been converted into a mini apartment. But, from the time I was 5, I was petrified of being down there. The feeling never went away . Not even when I shut the door for the last time at the age of 22.

As a graduation gift from high school my parents completely renovated the downstairs for me. All the while I grumbled about being too scared to live down there. My family assured me I had an over-active imagination and that I would come to love it. I never did.

For reasons unknown or undiscovered...That house was a very potent PORTAL for other Spirit Beings to manifest...Like it was a supernatural bus stop or something.I saw children there as little as about 3-4, deceased realtives of my friends, beings I didn't recognize, shadows, demons, and even an image of myself from a past life in a mirror.

I believe it was a neutral portal that allowed in ALL astrals,be they nice or mean, through ... a non-discriminating portal if you will.

Nevertheless, there was 1 constant oppressive energy that pervaded the house. Any new friend that I would bring over would always mention something about the spooky feeling my house had.And it was always SO cold! It could be the middle of summer and it would be SO cold.

The eyes I felt on me there were stifling. It was like someone that wanted to harm you was standing right behind me ALL the time.I was convinced there had been a rape and murder in that home and looking back, I wonder if that's who's oppressive energy I was indeed feeling.

It was so bad that at night, I became SO frightened of what I would see upon washing my face at night , that I quit ALL together. Mirrors being the portal that they are, it's NO wonder why I was freaked out.

There was 1 photo shot 20 years ago that seems to contain a white arc in that home.
White arcs are fairly rare to catch on film, however, a famous case that was made into a movie contained a full white arc photo. That film was, THE ENTITY, and the case is one of the most famous in paranormal research history.
Supposedly, a single mom was being viscously beaten & raped by an unseen Being.Interesting that I felt the presence so strongly of rape & murder in my home...
Assuming the red on the left side of photo is a common film flaw, the good folks at WinterSteel pointed out the white arc in the back ground over my left shoulder (in the left margin)...It's almost as if it is snaking through the plants.

"Modern man...has not ceased to be credulous...
The need to believe haunts him."
~William James

We have touched earlier upon this topic of demons but more as a defintion than anything else. The idea of demons have been with us for thousands of years, however, over the course of time the meanig has shifted radically.
In the day of the Greeks for example, they were known as DAIMONS that were "replete with wisdom".

*NOTE:
There is a SEARCH ENGINE on this BLOG
so type in the word demon for more info. on definitions...

TESTAMENT OF SOLOMON-
which is recorded in history as surfacing between the years of 100 - 400 & lists DEMONS from:Hebrew; Greek; Assyrian; Babylonian; Egyptian; and possibly Persian times.
SOLOMON controlled what he called the DJINN (demons) with his majic ring.

By the 16th & 17th centuries, Christians had devised a very structured and ordered method of categorizing DEMONS. In fact, JOHN WEYER estimated there were over 7,000,000 million DEMONS serving uder the 72 Princes of Hell.

DEMONS are often blamed for the ills and problems of society.
In many cultures, EXORCISM became a technique to rid one of the unwanted demon (also sometimes referred to as POSESSION). Catholic Exorcism rites date back to 1614, and possibly further.

Personally, I believe I have indeed encountered at least 1 DEMON in my life.
I was 21 at the time.
This occurred in the home I grew up in that was extremely haunted (more about that later)...
It happenend during my parents divorce.

My step-dad was a very disciplined meditator and did so 2 hours daily. He, however, was not a nice man, and without going into too much detail, it is enough to say he was at times abusive.

Applying the UNIVERSAL LAW of:
Like Attracts Like...
I think my step-dad was drawing in very nasty energy.
At the point of their final, physical seperation is when this experience occurred.

I had forgotten my gas card at that house, as I was moving out as well.
I was with a friend and it was a friday night ...we were headed to the movies.
The plan was that we go in quickly and then head out just as fast because we didn't want to be late for the show...
She had to go to the restroom & I wanted to call my boyfriend (at the time) to let him know what time I would be home later that evening. It was at that very moment of dialing the phone and listening to the ring, that I HEARD and FELT what I can only describe as a DEMON.

With the phone in one hand and up to my left ear,
my right ear was exposed and GROWLED into...
The sound was so close it felt like it had been closer than the breath of a whisper inside my ear.

I FROZE like a deer caught in the headlights and quickly left a voice message and hung up the phone.Hoping somehow there had been a strange echo in the house from my friend, I asked,
"Did you just say something to me?"
She said NO.
Still unconvinced and in a state of shock I said,
"Well, do yo have a frog in your throat???"
By this point she came into the kitchen where I was standing there frozen. I took one look at her and said,
"We have to get out of this house!!!"

I turned around and flung the front door open and together hand in hand we ran out and the down the stairs...
But RATS...
I forgot the gas card...
So, back we went...or rather I went and she stood in the doorway (can't blame her).
I turned on the light and opened the drawer where the card was kept, spun around and right as I went to turn off the lights...
POOF...
They went out by themselves...
At this point, my heart felt like it had leapt into my throat and we ran to my car.
We were so scared, we never even made it to the movies.

THE SHADOW PEOPLE PHENOMENON

"The spiritual world lies all around us
and its avenues are open
to the unseen feet of the phantoms that come and go."
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

To EVERYONE:
HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE!!!

Summer Solstice marks the climax of the solar cycle.Whilst we find the LONGEST DAY this time of year, we are indeed returning to the dark half or portion of the year. The Summer Solstice is about fertility, creativity, faeries, and harmony. It's about bringing into fruition those dreams we had on those long and dark Wintery nights.Move forward with your DREAMS while simultaneously living in BALANCE with MOTHER EARTH.

The Shadow People...

It seems like more and more often we are hearing about beings generally known as SHADOW PEOPLE.Personally, I am uncertain of whether I have encountered a SHADOW PERSON.I DO think quite possibly I captured one at EVERGREEN CEMETERY with my digital camera...but I am not certain.

Most people that report their encounters with these beings say it is most often negative. Some people have reported actually being attacked while others describe being unable to move. The descriptions vary to a certain extent. Some say it looks like a puff of black smoke while others claim to see the outline of a human like entity. Some say they have no eyes, others report they have red glowing eyes. There have even been reports of SHADOW ANIMALS on Art Bell's am radio show COAST TO COAST. In fact, when the topic came up on air during one of the shows they were inundated with over 4,500 emails of people ALL describing SHADOW PEOPLE.Some even sent in pictures.

What are the theories of the SHADOW PERSON phenomenon?
In other words, WHO or WHAT are they???
That all depends on who you ask...
And YOU know that end of the day it's YOUR CALL!

SHADOW-
1.) (Dion Fortune)
Various kinds of formations which appear to the CLAIRVOYANT as a dark shadow in the scene; brings a degree of fear when seen; appears in dreams and in psychic visions.

THEORIES:One's karmic debts that are for this INCARNATION only; the inner meaning of Self; represents the subconscious material of the present incarnation. Syn. SHADOW-SOUL

2.) Faint copy of a DISCARNATE ENTITY perceived clairvoyantly as a transparent outline of a person. Syn. APPARITION, SHADE, ASTRAL SHELL, GHOST.

3.) (Carl Jung)
The human EGO, the imp or darkside of a person (opposite of the saint image) bringing a balance into psychic wholeness; appears as a compensatory figure in dreams. Syn. TRICKSTER-TRANSFORMER

4.) (Mystic Schools)
The human PHYSICAL BODY;the ASTRAL BODY is the real body and the physical body is the shadow of it.

The Most Common Descriptions
of WHO these beings include but are not limited to:

- Imagination or hallucinations
- Ghosts- Demons or other nasty entites

- Menacing (being chased or attacked)
- Seen from the corner of the eyes only to bob around the room or disappear through walls
- Dissipate right before the witnesses eyes
- Feelings of dread
- No features (some are said to have glowing red eyes)

The Least Common
SHADOW PERSON seen has been dubbed "The Hat Man"...
He seems to appear wearing a cloak or long coat with a hat.
(Sounds like the villian in GHOSTWHISPERER...perhaps his legend was the inspiration???)
